Copper is a micronutrient the crop needs for enzymes in photosynthesis and respiration, for lignin that keeps stems and cell walls strong,...
Read the full guideWhy copper is needed in small amounts, how repeated copper fungicide sprays build up in orchard soils, and how to keep copper in balance.
Crops need only a little copper, and soils that are sprayed often with copper fungicides usually have more than enough. Over years, copper builds up in the topsoil of orchards and vineyards, where it can harm roots, earthworms and microbes and lower iron uptake. Test before you add copper, and spray copper fungicides only when the disease needs it.

Doses depend on the crop, soil and product, so this page gives methods, not amounts. Take the dose from your soil test report, the product label or your local agriculture officer or KVK. Results differ from farm to farm with soil, weather, crop and management. Farmer experiences on this site are their own reports, not a promise of results.

A soil test for copper shows it. Signs in the tree include weak roots and yellow young leaves.
Copper stays in the soil for a long time. Organic matter and soil life reduce its harm, and stopping unneeded sprays stops the build-up.
