How silicon shortage shows in rice, sugarcane, wheat, banana and vegetables, and why it is easy to miss.
Silicon shortage rarely shows a clear colour sign. Instead, crops have soft, droopy leaves, weak stems that lodge, and more pest and disease damage, especially blast and stem borer in rice. It is most likely in intensively cropped rice and sugarcane fields where straw and trash are burnt or removed.

Why it is easy to miss
- There is no yellowing pattern.
- Lodging and disease are blamed on weather and pests alone.
